三が一/Mitsugaichi
“三が一/Mitsugaichi” is one model of 49 kinds of “連鶴/Renzuru”.
Renzuru means connected-cranes which are made of only one paper without glue and tape.
49 kinds of Renzuru was in the book which is “秘伝千羽鶴折形/Hiden-Senbazuru-Orikata”.
The book was published in 1797.

Mitsugaichi is the model that two big cranes are connected to a small crane.
Fold big cranes in the way to make a blintz-fold-crane.
Therefore, make creases neatly!

Preparation of an origami paper
【Size】
a 17.5×17.5cm paper or it is bigger than 17.5cm.
【Kinds】
・Basic origami paper
・Double sided origami paper
・Washi paper
I made this model with a 17.5×17.5cm basic origami paper.
If you use a double sided origami paper or washi paper, it will get easier to make this model.
Because connecting parts tear easily.
Fold the paper in half in each direction.
After making creases, cut the paper on the blue line.
Cut the paper like this picture.
Then make creases at the dotted lines.
Also, make creases at the dotted lines.
Next steps are making creases at the dotted lines.
When making a horizontal crease,
fold the bottom to the green line that you have made.
Fold the paper like this picture.
When making a vertical crease,
fold the left to the center line.
Fold the paper like this picture.
Make another horizontal crease and another vertical crease as well.
After making four creases, it looks like this picture.
Preparing an origami paper is completed!
Make creases
To make creases on a paper before cutting the paper is very important.
If you cut a paper first before making creases, it will get harder to make creases on the paper.
Also, there’s a possibility that the paper is cut halfway when making creases.
This step is making creases on each square.
When making this model,
fold a small crane in the way to make a basic-crane for connected-cranes.
fold big cranes in the way to make an inside-blintz-crane.
The way to make an inside-blintz-crane is a little different from the way to make a basic-crane for connected-cranes.
Therefore, make creases while referencing the link down below.
On the other page, there is how to make a basic-crane for connected-cranes.
In the “A” square, make basic-creases.
In the “B” squares, make inside-blintz-crane-creases.
In the “A” square, make basic-creases which are the green lines and the blue lines in this picture.
In the “B” squares, make inside-blintz-crane-creases which are the green lines and the blue lines in this picture.
When making inside-blintz-crane-creases on big squares,
a small square end up being made some creases too.
The creases are which you don’t use when folding the small square.
It is better not to make creases, which will not be used, as much as possible.
Because it get harder to fold the small crane.
Therefore, try not to make creases on the part which is painted blue when making inside-blintz-crane-creases on the right square.
When making inside-blintz-crane-creases on the right square,
making the creases without making creases on the part which is painted blue.
On the other side, making the creases without making creases on the part which is painted blue as well.
When making inside-blintz-crane-creases on the left square, make the creases in the same way.
This picture is taken after making creases in each yellow square.
Please make sure whether there are the creases, which are the green lines and the blue lines in the 4 pictures ago or the 5 pictures ago, in each yellow square.
Cut the paper
Cut your paper after making creases!
<reference>『Hiden-Senbazuru-Orikata』- was published in 1797
Cut the paper while referencing the diagram.
Depending on color of the arrows, a length of a cut is different.
The yellow line is the center line.
I cut the paper so that the part which is shown by the blue arrow is 1mm
and the part which is shown by the yellow arrow is 3mm.
Therefore, a connecting part is 4mm.
(I used a 17.5×17.5cm paper.)
On the opposite side, cut the paper while referencing the arrows in the previous picture.
Make sure the direction of each crane
When making Renzuru, to fold cranes while making sure the direction of each crane is very important.
On this site, I will draw lines on each square in a picture.
Make cranes so that the lines are changed to wings.
I recommend that you draw lines lightly on the back in order not to make a mistake.
Make cranes so that the orange lines are changed to wings.
After making sure the direction of each crane, make the model – Mitsugaichi.
In the next page, there is how to make the model.
If you try to make it by yourself, I recommend that you don’t look at the next page!
